The "popsicle man" has been driving past our house in the evenings unknowingly interrupting our dinner to the sheer delight of my children. When they hear the all-too-familiar ice cream truck music getting louder and louder as the truck approaches our street, they start getting delirious with a hopeful desire that either my husband or I will give them a few dollars to buy a frozen treat. Occasionally we give in to their pleading if we do not have any ice pops in our freezer. Fortunately for me I usually have something to satisfy their sweet tooth which is also cold and refreshing.
Lately the kids and I have been having a lot of fun making homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt pops. Its fun experimenting with different fruit and flavor combinations and even more fun eating our cold creations.
Frozen yogurt pops made with fruit is currently my favorite pop to eat. Made with pureed fresh fruit, Greek vanilla yogurt, and some type of sweetener these homemade pops are not only refreshing and delicious they are also very healthy!
Last year I bought a few Tovolo ice pop molds which I loved using throughout the summer. Weve also used small Dixie paper cups by covering them with foil and poking a pop stick in each one a fun old school method. I find the most difficult aspect of making ice pops with my kids is having to wait for them to freeze. When they want to eat an ice pop, waiting several hours or overnight is not appealing compared to going to the store or buying from the ice cream truck to consume instantly.
But this year Ive loved using the popular Zoku Quick Pop maker because you can make ice pops in about 10 minutes. Seriously.
What I have for you today is a recipe for Strawberry Banana Frozen Yogurt Pops and a Zoku Quick Pops Cookbook Giveaway (see the end of this post for details). Our family loves to make and eat these "fro-yo" pops, and I love knowing they are healthy. You could easily substitute other fruits for the banana and strawberries as well as substituting different types and amounts of sweetener for the sugar depending on your personal preference.
I am also excited to announce we are giving away 5 copies of the Zoku Quick Pops cookbook to Kitchen Explorer readers. This cookbook includes 40 creative ice pop recipes such as lemonade, Chai, PBJ, and Cookie-Dough. The recipes are intended to be used with the Zoku Quick Pop Maker but can easily be adapted to be used with your pops mold.
