You guys...I wrote a book!
I still cant quite believe it myself. But its written and hard cover and has that good, sweet smell of the printing press still clinging to the pages.
My biggest dream my whole life was to write this book. I used to sit and page through Ruth Reichls food memoirs over and over, hoping that maybe someday I could write my own.
"White Jacket Required" is my personal story of going through culinary school with the goal of becoming a food writer rather than a fancy restaurant chef. In the book, I talk about cooking oxtails (theyre just like fatty popsicles!), falling in love with bread and the pain of losing my little brother at such a young age. Some of my favorite recipes are scattered throughout, like linguine with clam sauce, low country shrimp and grits, and pumpkin whoopie pies.
I hope that my story inspires others to go after their dreams, no matter how big and crazy they appear to be.
"White Jacket Required" will be out at bookstores next Tuesday, September 4th! It will also be available for sale at ShopPBS. I cant wait for you guys to read it!
