PBS Food asks Chef Zarela Martinez, chef and owner of Zarela, about her time with Julia Child on the show, "In Julia's Kitchen with Master Chefs." In the midst of the Julia Child 100th Birthday Celebration, Martinez pays tribute to her legacy.
"Bring me a stool," she said in her inimitable voice to one of the aides. "I don't want to tower over Zarela."
Between takes she would hurry up the stairs to work on her computer...
I knew Julia and she always made a big deal over me so the impact was not as big as for someone who did not know her well. But though she knew a lot about most cuisines she knew little about regional Mexican cooking and seemed genuinely excited about the flavors and loved the toast: Salud, amor y dinero, y el tiempo para gozarlo. Health, love and money and the time to enjoy them.
