Meet Aube!
by Aube Giroux on Jun 5, 2013
Hello and welcome to Kitchen Vignettes on PBS!
My name is Aube. It rhymes with globe. And it's French for Dawn.
Kitchen Vignettes is a farm-to-table video blog I started in 2011 as a way to weave together my love of gardening, cooking, and eating through visual stories from my kitchen. As a passionate eater of local, organic foods, I like to know the story behind what's on my plate so in my videos you'll usually catch glimpses of the gardens, soils, and farms that grew the ingredients in the featured recipes.
I believe that the more you know about your food, the more pleasure you get out of eating it. The choices we make about what we put on our dinner tables have huge ramifications on the world we live in: the quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink, the soils we plant our crops in, and the lives of the people who produce our food. I find that food tastes better when it's locally-sourced and grown in a way that doesn't harm the planet.
My cooking is influenced by my French Canadian roots and years spent living and eating my way through Mexico, France, Tunisia, England, and Italy. I learned to cook from my mom and my grandmother. Now, that they are both gone, cooking is a way for me to remember them and to keep their spirit alive through what they taught me. For example, in this past blog video from Christmas 2011, I shared my mom's treasured Baba au Rhum recipe.
My goal with this blog is to share my love of seasonal foods grown close to home, in many cases, quite literally right outside my doorstep. I'm so thrilled to be joining the PBS Food blogging team and to share my stories and recipes with you!
