LIDIA'S BLOG

Flavors That Define Us

May 4, 2023
Premiered May 30, 2023, 9/8c, on PBS.
Here I am with the guests I invited to the potluck dinner at immigrant Food, in Washington D.C. From Left to right, Kazi Mannan, Jeanine Prime, Eric Adjepong, Lidia, Kevin Tien, Toyin Alli, Naz Ash, and Mile Montezuma.
Food is a common denominator that unites us all. Breaking bread with others breaks down barriers and opens the door to intimate conversations that allow us to get to know each other in a disarming way.
As America grows more diverse than ever before, new immigrants are making different calculations – with many more openly sharing their heritage with the America they are now helping to define.
Join me, as I travel from big cities to small towns in rural America to share meals, and inspiring stories with first-, second-, and third-generation Americans forging their own way and shaping the shifting definition of what it means to be American.
To commemorate my experiences, I travel to Washington, DC, a destination for many of America’s new arrivals. There I celebrate the patchwork of immigrant cuisine with a potluck dinner held at Immigrant Food in downtown Washington. My amazing guests bring dishes chosen to share their heritage. You won't want to miss it!
