There is a prideful satisfaction I get when I whip up homemade creations I would typically purchase in a store. For instance, making homemade ice cream, which tastes better than anything I can buy, makes me happy. Or baking scratch layer cakes that rival the local bakeries.
I believe many people shy away from cooking or baking in the kitchen because they feel a recipe might be too much work to even bother. In some cases this argument is true. But in other instances, homemade dishes are often easier than many people may believe.
This is the case with homemade hummus. Hummus is a spread or dip made from cooked garbanzo beans (chickpeas) and blended with a few other ingredients. A very popular spread in the Middle East and the United States, hummus is generally served with pita bread and cut raw vegetables.
Todays recipe is for a basic hummus spread perfect for snacking during a summer heat wave. This is also a great recipe for kids to help make. Just toss everything in a food processor or blender, and its ready. Enjoy!
Quick notes
*Tahini can be found for very inexpensive at your local ethnic grocery store specializing in Mediterranean or Arab foods.
