With April Fools Day tomorrow, I plan on greeting them with a hot homemade breakfast of eggs, toast, and bacon. Except this April 1st there will be no eggs, no toast, and no bacon. But there will be vanilla yogurt with a canned apricot half positioned in the center, toasted pound cake slices, and sour candy strips - a tasty illusion of the sweetest kind all in the spirit of fun.
If youre looking for creative and edible ways to celebrate April Fools Day tomorrow or just want to have fun with your food anytime of the year, here are a few great ideas from around the web to get the whole family laughing.
I asked my daughter, do you really think you can trick the queen of pranksters? I asked her right after she tried to pull a prank on me unsuccessfully. Growing up my siblings and I were always tricking each other for the sake of entertainment. Back then there was no internet, cable TV, or Nintendo D.S. My childhood days were spent with my siblings and the neighborhood kids playing hide-and-go-seek until our parents called us home. Many hours were spent scheming ways to laugh at each others expense. The good old days; how I miss them.
In elementary school I remember cracking many jokes with my classmates, and looking forward to April Fools Day pranks. As I got older I stopped thinking about the significance of April 1st all together. Until, that is, my daughters learned of April Fool's Day. Because the apple doesnt fall far from the tree, both Mimi and Abbi love to find ways to trick me on April 1st.
I recognize their mischievous laughter and the smirks on their faces they so desperately want to hide but cant during their delivery. Even the incessant pleas for me to go into my bedroom so they can freely set their traps without my presence seems vaguely familiar.
In the spirit of fun I comply. When its time to let me out of my room Im usually directed to go somewhere specific and wait for them to execute their plans. That's when I might do something unpredictable to demonstrate why I am the queen of pranksters; then, now and forever. I also have a heart. I will often let their pranks go through without hindrance just so I can see their tears of laughter roll down their faces as they yell out loud, "Gotcha!"
