Butterscotch Walnut Blondies

The dictionary defines a Blondie as a small square of dense, pale-colored cake, typically of a butterscotch or vanilla flavor. Commonly referred to as blond brownies, these bars often have add-ins such as chopped nuts or flavored baking (chocolate) chips. As a home baker, I have a deep appreciation for easily prepared dessert bars that do not require very much fuss. These Butterscotch Walnut Blondies not only taste great, a batch can be easily made and without any special equipment. This recipe calls for butterscotch chips and chopped walnut pieces that the bar completely envelopes. These tiny bits of flavor and texture go very well with the brown sugar based dough. With these as thick as they are, I suggest baking them in a square casserole pan. Youll also want to make sure that they have had enough time to completely cool. I think they are even better if you have the time to refrigerate them for a short while and serve them cool. However, if you are one of the many who feel it is far too long to wait for them to cool down, and need to bite into these wonderful morsels of goodness right out of the oven, then by all means enjoy them warm out of the oven or spoon vanilla ice cream over a small warm piece. When served warm they have a way of reminding me of that childhood excitement when I didnt have the patience to wait on them, and didnt need baked treats to be just right before devouring them.   Enjoy.
